Jesus:Man and and God

by R.S. Neaville

We understand only through faith how Jesus is both God and Man. It is a hard concept for the natural man to understand. This subject of scripture , like all other concepts must be grasped by the Spirit, made real to us by the leading of the Holy Spirit. It most important to our understanding of the pure Gospel message to understand the importance of Jesus coming to us in the form of a man, for the bulk of our understanding of the architecture of the Gospel hinges on this concept.

We start with the Law, For Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law.
We know from scripture that he was perfect. Only some one perfect could fulfill the Law for all of us who were born of Adam were under the curse of sin
First we see our father Adam cursed because of sin.
Gen.3:17
17.  And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
 18.  Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
 19.  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

And so we see that curse of sin passed to all men. Who were born of his loins.

DANIEL 9:10.  Neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
 11.  Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.

Gal.3:10.  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
 11.  But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
 12.  And the law is not of faith: but, the man that doeth them shall live in them.
 13.  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

So all the  children of Adam are under the curse of sin, and so under the Law: all are in sin:

Romans 3: 19. Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
 20.  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
 21.  But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
 22.  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
23. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Galatians 3: 21.  Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Romans 5:
12.  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

SO WE SEE WHETHER Jew or Gentile, sin came upon all men, and so the curse of sin. And all men are judged by the perfect Law of God.

So if all men are judged sinners and cursed under Law, If all in Adam are dead because of sin, then We see something important by these set of facts. The perfect Law testifies to God’s righteous standard for a man. This law does not Judge God, It judges man only. There fore only a man could fulfill it. As it judged us who are of Adam guilty, it must Judge one to be innocent, the one who would fulfill it. So we see Jesus judged by the Law to be innocent. So therefore the Law itself is a prophesy, for gave us the righteous standard of a man, and that righteous standard is Christ. And further, by judging Christ to be an innocent man, it also judges him to be the only sacrifice for man, the once and perfect Lamb without blemish.

Adam could not produce a man that would ever fulfill the law, because all in Adam are under its judgement, therefore its curse. But God could produce a man that would fulfill it. That Man was Jesus. Not born of Adam, but rather born of God. A man born of woman , under Law.

Galatians 4: 4.  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
 5.  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

When ever we see therefore the Messiah, our Jesus referred to as the only begotten , or the first born of all creation, , we know that it has to do with his life here as a man, for in his pre existence with the father he was eternal, as the Word of God. He was The very creator of all things that were made. He is and was always by very nature God. He humbled himself before his father,Angels,and men..laying aside what it meant to be God , took on the form of us and so served us,

Phil2;5.  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
 6.  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
 7.  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
 8.  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
 9.  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
 10.  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

In this way he became the only man begotten of God, for Adam could only produce sinners.

John 1

 1.  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
 2.  The same was in the beginning with God.
 3.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
 4.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
 5.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
 6.  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
 7.  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
 8.  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
 9.  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
 10.  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
 11.  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
 12.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
 13.  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
 14.  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

We see the truth plainly by John’s testimony- He was made flesh, though he was creator, only after being made flesh was he called the only begotten of the Father. And we see that we (verse 12) who receive his life are born after his pattern, not of man, but of God. This is what it  means by that he was the firstborn. And so we who are of him are born of that imperishable seed, the brothers he is not ashamed of, the children of the spirit, and his joint heirs.

Col.1: 12.  Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
 13.  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
 14.  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
 15.  Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
 16.  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17. And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Hebrews 1

 1.  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
 2.  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;
 3.  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
 4.  Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
 5.  For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
 6.  And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
 7.  And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.
 8.  But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
 9.  Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
 10.  And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
 11.  They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
 12.  And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
 13.  But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
 14.  Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

We see from all these scriptures , and the ones to follow that Jesus layed aside his glory he had with the Father in the beginning and earned it all back as a man! He was perfected by suffering and was obedient to death. And so he has inherited a more excellent name than angels

Hebrews 5

 1.  For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
 2.  Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.
 3.  And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins.
 4. And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
 5.  So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
 6.  As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
 7.  Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
 8.  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
 9.  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
 10.  Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

Hebrews 1:4. Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

So the importance of Our redeemer coming as a man cannot be under estimated. When all is sorted out we see that indeed Jesus is the new man, And that the spiritual is what God had in mind from the be ginning. It was never about Adam , but always about Christ. He is the Last Adam, and so the true first man, for the truth of all reality is the spiritual. It is primal. We are told that The physical is the example , and that the Spiritual is the reality. The natural is only temporary , but the spiritual eternal. All that in fact is seen was made from the unseen

Hebrews 11:
3.  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

That God in his purposes made the physical to be a witness to the spiritual. We are Told that Adam, being first, was only a figure of he who was to come.

Romans5:12.  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
 13.  (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
 14.  Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
15. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

This gives great meaning to the fact that the Lamb was slain before the foundations of the earth were laid.

Revelation 13: 8.  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Adam came First, then Christ, for the Last will be first and the first will be last. What comes first is natural, the example. What comes next is the reality.

ICor.15:42.  So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
 43.  It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
 44. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
 45.  And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
 46.  Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
 47.  The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
 48.  As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
 49.  And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

Matthew 20: 16.  So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

It has always Been God’s way of creation. First the shadows, then the reality. First the copies, then the true. The things that are seen testify to what cannot be seen.

Colossians 2: 8.  Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
 9.  For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
 10.  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
 11.  In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
 12.  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
 13.  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
 14.  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
 15.  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
 16.  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
16. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Hebrews 9: 19.  For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
 20.  Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
 21.  Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
 22.  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
 23.  It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
23. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

So we see even an earthly reference to Adam, or man in scripture can actually be spiritually speaking of Christ. Notice how the Writer of Hebrews quotes Psalms 8:
Below:

Psalms 8

 1.  O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
 2.  Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
 3.  When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
 4.  What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
 5.  For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
 6.  Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
 7.  All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
 8.  The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
9. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

Here David was plainly talking of Man’s creation (Adam) and his dominion which was earthly. But Hebrews interprets this about Christ:

Hebrews 2

 1.  Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
 2.  For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;
 3.  How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
 4.  God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
 5.  For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
 6.  But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?
 7.  Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
 8.  Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
 9.  But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.
 10.  For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
 11.  For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
 12.  Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
 13.  And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
 14.  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
