There are five sacraments in the
Last Days Church. Sacraments are physical things we do that echo
a spiritual meaning. These are how we testify to God and his Son
Jesus when ever we come together as a Church. These are not
rituals but acts of faith filled with meaning. They are figures
we keep through faith. The meanings are sacred to us. Here is
the list
1. We Come together as one early
on the first day of the week to express our hope in the
resurrection of the dead. The gathering of the Church mirrors the
hope that we will be gathered together in the resurrection at
Christ's return as one body redeemed.
Mark 16:2 And very
early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto
the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. Acts 20:7 And upon
the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to
break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the
morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
2.Baptism is one of these
Sacraments. Our baptism is a testimony to what has already
occured in our hearts through faith. This is one of the ways we
testify that now we belong to Christ. Going under the water says
we are dead with him. Coming out says we live with him in the
resurrection..a new life.
Romans 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into
Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are
buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we
also should walk in newness of life.
3. Whenever we gather together to
have communion we proclaim Jesus and his death till he comes. We
testify through this act that we are in him and he is in us. we
are one with him. 1 Corinthians 11:24 And
when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this
is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of
me.25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had
supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this
do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.26 For as
often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the
Lord's death till he come.
4. The Roles of men and women in
the church are also a sacrament. by our actions we proclaim
submission to God and his order while it testifies to spiritual
truths that world cannot see. Women picture the body as does the
Church. men picture the Spirit in headship as does Christ in
headship over the Body.
We mirror these truths in how
we conduct ourselves in our gatherings. It is worship.1
Corinthians 11:2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me
in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to
you.3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is
Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of
Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 14:34 Let your women keep silence
in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but
they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.
1 Timothy 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all
subjection.1 Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor
to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
5. The laying on of hands is the
fifth sacrament. Through the laying on of hands we demonstrate
the power and mercy of God through prayer and healing and the
impartation of gifts.etc. it pictures that God has place
both his right hand (Jesus) and his left hand (Holy Spirit) on
the world to reconcile it to himself. The power is not in the
hands but in our faith in its meaning. God has laid his hands on
us and so healed and blessed us from Heaven by sending us Jesus
and the Spirit. So we lay hands on each other to picture this
truth.
Hebrews 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of
hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal
judgment.Acts 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of
the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them
money,1 Timothy 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which
was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of
the presbytery.Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if
they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall
lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. These
five sacraments will be restored to the Last Days Church
